This page explains how Dispatch.IO decides who can do what in your Fluxer community: the permission required by each command, the permissions the bot itself needs, Fluxer's role hierarchy, the staff roles the bot recognizes and the owner's special rights. It is for owners and administrators organizing their moderation team.
Tip
The simplest setup: invite the bot with the Administrator permission, put its role at the very top of the role list, and give your moderators the Fluxer permissions of the commands they use.
How the bot checks permissions
Fluxer has no slash commands: it can't hide a command from members who aren't allowed, like Discord does. The bot checks everything itself, in this order, on every command:
Each refusal is a short reply deleted after 5 seconds, together with your command. The permission name is written as in Fluxer's API ("Ban Members"): the table Permission required by each command gives the name shown in Fluxer's settings.
The bot's permissions
On invite
The invite link asks for Administrator: it is the simplest option, and what the bot expects. Without it, it needs at least:
| What they are for | Fluxer permissions |
|---|---|
| Reading and answering | View channel, Send messages, Embed links, Attach files, Read message history |
| Buttons as reactions, the bot's emojis | Add reactions, Use external emoji |
Replies deleted after 5 s, anti-raid, !clear | Manage messages |
Tickets, temporary channels, !nuke, !toggle-lock | Manage channels, Manage roles |
| Welcome roles, rewards, reaction roles | Manage roles |
| Moderation | Ban members, Kick members, Time out members, Move members |
Flames in nicknames, !rename | Manage nicknames |
| Logs (who did it), invites | View activity log, Manage community, Manage webhooks |
!emoji | Create emoji & stickers, Manage emoji & stickers |
| Music and radio (in the voice channel) | Connect, Speak |
Where the bot's role sits
On Fluxer as on Discord, a role can only give roles placed below it, and a member can only sanction members whose highest role is below theirs. Fluxer has one more rule:
At an equal position, the older role wins
Two roles can share the same position. Fluxer then ranks the older role higher. A role you just created arrives at the bottom of the list (position 1), below the bot's role if it is at that position too: drag the bot's role above to avoid surprises.
Put the Dispatch.IO role above:
- the roles it gives (welcome, level and flame rewards, role panels,
!role-all); - the members it sanctions (
!timeout,!kick,!ban, anti-raid) or renames (flames,!rename).
The bot never gives a role placed above its own, nor a "dangerous" role (Administrator, Manage community, Manage roles, Ban, Kick…) through a role panel.
Permissions checked per command
Before some commands, the bot checks that it has the permissions it needs, and replies "I'm missing the … permission" otherwise:
| Command | Bot permission checked |
|---|---|
!ban, !unban, !banlist | Ban members |
!kick | Kick members |
!timeout, !end-timeout, !force-disconnect | Time out members |
!clear | Manage messages |
!nuke | Manage channels |
!toggle-lock | Manage channels, Manage roles |
!role-all | Manage roles |
!play, !play-now, !play-radio | View channel, Connect, Speak (in your voice channel) |
For the others, a missing permission simply makes the action fail (and a Permission error log is posted in the Server logs channel when planned).
Permission required by each command
| Member's Fluxer permission | Commands |
|---|---|
| None | !help, !ping, !prefix (display), !info, !profil, !premium, !rename (yourself), !report, !upload-image, !translate, !hello, !giphy, !rank, !top, !streak, !achievements, !bump, !poll, !botlist, !infractions (yours), !ticket-manager (in a ticket, depending on your role), !zulu, !metar, !frequencies, the music commands (!play, !play-radio, !queue, !title, !volume, !stop…, with the requester rule) |
| Manage community | !prefix <new> |
| Time out members | !warn, !timeout, !end-timeout, !force-disconnect, !snipe, !infractions @member |
| Kick members | !kick |
| Ban members | !ban, !unban, !banlist |
| Manage channels | !toggle-lock |
| Manage emoji & stickers | !emoji |
| Administrator | !config, !clear, !nuke, !say, !role-all, !modify-xp, !reset-levels, !raid-mode, !giveaway, !create-embed, !edit-embed, !create-container, !edit-container, !create-banner |
The Dispatch.IO team commands (!badge, !manage-badge, !flag) only answer the bot's creators.
The ADMIN and MODO staff roles
On top of Fluxer permissions, the bot knows two staff role types saved for each community: ADMIN and MODO. On Fluxer they are mostly used to protect:
- a member with an ADMIN role can only be sanctioned by the owner;
- a member with a MODO role can only be sanctioned by the owner or an administrator (ADMIN role or Administrator permission);
- a MODO (or ADMIN) role also lets you view other members' infractions with
!infractions @member.
Note
To run a moderation command, you need the Fluxer permission listed above: a MODO role without the permission is not enough. If your community has no ADMIN and MODO roles, the bot relies only on Fluxer permissions: that's the normal case.
Who can sanction whom
The moderation commands protect the owner and the staff. Each refusal shows a clear message, for example "You cannot ban a member with a role higher than or equal to yours.".
| Rule | !ban | !kick | !timeout | !warn | !end-timeout | !force-disconnect | !unban |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| The owner can't be targeted | Yes | Yes | Yes | No | No | No | Yes |
| The bot itself can't be targeted | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | — |
| The author's role must be above the target | Yes | Yes | Yes | No | No | No | No |
| The bot's role must be above the target | Yes | Yes | Yes | No | No | No | No |
| Target with an ADMIN role | Owner only | Owner only | Owner only | Owner only | Owner only | Owner only | — |
| Target with a MODO role | Owner or admin | Owner or admin | Owner or admin | Owner or admin | Owner or admin | Owner or admin | — |
"Above" follows Fluxer's rule: higher position, or same position and older role.
The owner's rights
The community owner always has every permission: they can use every command and access the dashboard. The bot also gives them these rights:
- Protection: they can't be targeted by
!ban,!kick,!timeoutor!unban. - Sanctioning the staff: they are the only one who can sanction a member with an ADMIN role.
- Anti-raid: they are on the whitelist of every protection as soon as the bot arrives.
- Alerts: as long as no emergency mention is set on the website, they are the one mentioned on critical logs (anti-raid, sanctions).
- Infractions: together with members who have Administrator, they can delete an infraction (link sent with
!infractions). - Nickname: they are never renamed by flames.
Giving your team the right rights
Rights go through the Fluxer permissions of your roles (Community settings → Roles). Example for the Café des Devs community:
| Role | Permissions to give | Bot commands available |
|---|---|---|
| @Moderators | Time out members, Kick members, Ban members | !warn, !timeout, !end-timeout, !force-disconnect, !snipe, !kick, !ban, !unban, !banlist, !infractions @member |
| Admin role | Administrator | Every command |
| @Members | No special permission | Public commands (!profil, !top, !bump…) |
For protection between staff members, think of the hierarchy: put @Moderators above @Members, and the bot's role above all.
Who can set up the bot
| Where | Who |
|---|---|
| Website dashboard | The owner and members with Administrator or Manage community. |
!prefix <new> | Members with Manage community. |
!raid-mode, !config | Members with Administrator. |
Changes made on the website are logged in the Server logs channel, with their author's name. Every setting is detailed in Bot configuration.
Website account roles (Dispatch.IO team, administration pages) are a separate system: see Managing permissions.
Common problems
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| "You need the … permission" | The member lacks the command's Fluxer permission | Give the permission to their role (table above). |
| "I'm missing the … permission" | The bot's role lacks the permission | Add the permission to the bot's role, or give it Administrator back. |
| "I can't ban this member because their role is higher than or equal to mine." | The bot's role is below the target's (or at the same position and newer) | Move the bot's role up in Community settings → Roles. |
| The bot answers no command | Wrong prefix, or the bot can't see the channel | Mention the bot (@Dispatch.IO help) to see the prefix; check View channel and Send messages for its role. |
| My command stays in the channel after the reply | The bot lacks Manage messages in that channel | Give it the permission, or ignore it: only your command stays. |
